This e-learning module explores manual handling techniques for supporting people with disability.
Developed as part of an NDS Member Collaboration, this awareness e-learning module for Disability Support Workers addresses what makes a manual task hazardous and how to manage the risks associated with it. With a number of demonstrative videos and interactive activities, topic areas include:
- Managing risk associated with hazardous manual tasks
- Personal Care
- Mobility
- Transportation
The module includes a short assessment required for course completion.
The entire module takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.
A video library complements the course. The video library includes demonstrations of the following tasks:
- Risk Management - 4 step application and transfer using a transfer belt
- Undressing
- Showering
- Drying
- Dressing
- Lying to sitting
- Positioning the lower limb of the customer for rolling
- Positioning the upper limb of the customer for rolling
- Rolling the client towards the worker
- Rolling the client away from the worker
- Assist to stand front
- Assist to stand back
- Assist to stand side
- Using a transfer belt to stand
- Sit to stand with walking frame
- Assisted walking
- Walking the a transfer belt
- Walking with aid - walking frame
- walking with aid - walking stick
- Assisted sitting
- Assisted sitting with a transfer belt
- Repositioning a person in a wheelchair

Fee structure (excludes GST) for a 12 month licence:
- Individual access: $75
- Up to 25 users: $625
- 26 to 50 users: $950
- 51 to 75 users: $1080
- 76 to 100 users: $1250
- 101 to 150 users: $2020
- 151 to 200 users: $2600
- 201 to 250 users: $3250
- 250 plus users: POA
