Medicare Urgent Care Clinics open around Australia
5/02/2024
Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs) have opened in every state and territory. Taking the strain off hospital emergency departments, they give Australians more options to see a doctor or nurse for urgent, but not life-threatening, illnesses or injuries.
To help providers promote the clinics to people with disability, the Department of Health and Aged Care has created an Accessible Communication Stakeholder Kit, which we have published to the NDS website. The kit lists all the government’s online resources about the clinics. Providers can print up the kit and pass them on to people with disability to let them know they have more options for emergency treatment.
Providers can also pass on the link to the Urgent Care Clinic resource page. There they will find a map showing the nearest Urgent Care Clinic, information about what injuries and illnesses come under ‘urgent but not life-threatening’, factsheets and wall posters, and a host of short explanatory videos in various languages, including Auslan.
