NDS analyses DRC recommendations about First nations people with disability
1/11/2023
As part of our ongoing analysis of the Disability Royal Commission final report, this update covers recommendations on addressing violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation experienced by First Nations people with disability.
Volume 9 of the Royal Commission final report calls for a renewed commitment to First Nations people with disability through 13 key recommendations. These recommendations span two primary areas: improving NDIS access and making structural reforms.
On improving NDIS access, the final report proposes block funding for community-controlled organisations, First Nations representation on the NDIA Board, recognising participation in cultural life, prioritising return-to-Country support, and developing criteria for family support in remote communities.
